Lobo is the spanish word for "wolf"

Blanca means "white"

....hence the name...

    White Wolf Pyrenees

Though they may look like white wolves....these beauties are actually Great Pyrenees.  They are the most loyal loving dogs you will ever encounter!  Known equally for their gentle nature, strength and courage. The breed takes its name from the Pyrenees mountain range in Eastern Europe where they were used to guard livestock from lions and bears.

Despite his regal and majestic appearance, the Great Pyrenees is a keen worker, faithfully guarding his flocks no matter the weather or terrain. With his intelligence, scenting ability and excellent sight, he is an invaluable companion to the shepherd. The breed possesses a beautifully thick, weather resistant white coat that may contain markings of badger, gray, or various shades of tan.

This giant, gorgeous dog was bred to be a guard dog and has strong territorial instincts. The Great Pyrenees defines his territory as: "as far as his eye can see." These dogs were bred to think independently and to make decisions on their own, so if you are looking for an obedience champion who hangs on your every word, the Pyrenees probably isn't it. They are good watchdogs and will bark to raise the alarm of someone on their turf. They are protective, even possessive, of their family, property, and livestock. This dog will make protecting you his life goal. He will want to be with you as much as possible so that he can know where you are and what you are doing at all times. The sheer size of them is enough to deter evildoers, and they have a unique ability to tell friend from foe. They have a deep, booming bark. Great Pyrenees do well with children and seem to have a built-in sense of responsibility for watching over them. The Pyrenees are loving and affectionate with their families: gentle, patient, and calm. They get along well with other dogs and household pets.  They are remarkably sensitive and sympathetic to your emotions and will comfort you when you need it. In turn, they require affection, kindness and human companionship. Pyrs should be exercised daily and they make great walking partners, as they tend to walk along beside you calmly instead of pulling you across town. The Great Pyranees is intelligent, dependable, confident, brave, devoted, sweet, and really tall, so don't keep your steaks thawing on the counter :)  Ranging in size from 25 to 32 inches tall at the shoulder, and averaging over 100 lbs. Where grooming is a concern....The medium-length coat of the Great Pyrenees only requires an occasional brushing.  Protectors of sheep, goats and other types of livestock: they were AKC recognized in 1933.

Our Kennel...

    White Wolf Pyrenees

is located in rural Nashville, Tennessee on a 20 acre "hobby" farm.  We have Pekin Ducks, Peacocks, Maine Coon Cats, Tennessee Walking Horse, and plan to add to our menagerie in the future.

Our land is sandwiched between several thousand acres of hunting farm and is very remote.  Coyote are a threat as well as many many other wild creatures that seek prey in our area.  Our Pyrs keep us safe.  They protect our home and our animals.  The cats often sleep curled in their fur, the ducks eat from their food bowls, and the children have ridden on their backs.  They have an excellent sense of people and are by our side to greet every visitor.  Only standing down upon command.

Our puppies are handled daily, loved and played with.  They are kept in our machine shop / barn on a concrete floor on a pad under a heat lamp (in winter) with mom.  She has access in and out at will but the puppies are in the dry off the ground and protected from the elements at all times.  They are taking on outings to explore the farm with us when they are old enough to crawl around.  At 5 weeks we introduce food other than mom's milk and  begin to teach them to sit before being fed.  This is the very first step in establishing dominance and training your dog to respect you as leader.  By eight weeks these pups are easily over 10 lbs and bigger than many small breed adult dogs.  They will come to you and are social and sweet.

These dogs have three layers of fur.  They shed in the spring and need to be brushed out when shedding to keep from matting.  If you keep the coat brushed you will not need to shave them to keep them cool in summer their coat will wick and breathe as well as protect from the sun.

We have had experience with many other breeds, including Labrador Retrievers, Collies, Cocker Spaniel, and German Shepherd.  After having Pyrenees we will never have another breed of dog.  They are what we call the "perfect" breed.  Of course perfect for us does not mean, perfect for you.  Read the information above about the breed.  Know what you are looking for and whether the personality of these dogs is a fit for you.
